Tips on using Background Textures
This week we thought we'd offer up some tips on using the Background Textures as they seem to be gaining more popularity!
First, let's look at the layout of an invitation...
Now that it's clear which area we're talking about, on with the tips!
If you'd like to use a Background Texture, you may want to set your Background Color to either a plain white or a complimentary color to the texture you plan to use. The reason for this is to avoid "flashes". If the background of the above invitation was set to green before a texture was added, when the invitation loads on your recipients' browser, they may see a quick flash of green before the texture loads. Setting the color to white or a complimentary color will make these "flashes" less noticable.
You're tried out the textures, but have decided to stick with a plain color instead. To turn off the textures, simply click on the first option inside the textures library. This option looks like an empty white box with an X in it. Your Background Texture will now be gone and the plain color will be displayed. Keep in mind, textures take a front seat to colors, so you must remember to turn them off if you don't want to use them. The textures are off by default.
In your vast searches on the internet, if you happen to find a background that you like but we don't have, just send us the file and (if it's a workable background) we'll add it to the Textures library! Keep in mind we won't insert any images that have a copywrite or trademark, nor will we add anything that could be offensive to the general public. Of course we'll email you and let you know if and when your Texture choice has been added, or why it wasn't added.
Editing and Testing Your Invitation/Announcement
Anytime you create a new invitation/announcement, editing is inevitable! Whether it's to add forgotten details or change colors or images, most of the time editing is a good thing!
However, there are times when you can get completely carried away and "over edit"! Sometimes that could be an incident where too many colors are being used, too many small details are added making the wording seem more like a novel, or even causing a "jumbled" appearance!
We suggest taking the baby-step approach! Edit as much as you'd like, but make sure to email the finished product to yourself for testing. You can email your invitation/announcement to yourself at your account's email address as often as you'd like. Then walk away for a while. This will help clear your mind so when you come back to it, it will seem more "fresh" and you'll be able to make a more objective decision about any further editing.
Keep in mind, the invitations/announcements are web-based, and unless you make changes on the email section itself, your updated version is what will be displayed even if you emailed the first version to yourself days ago! (as long as you didn't forget to click the SAVE button, that is!)
Once your editing is complete, if you've already sent the invitation/announcement to your recipient list you do not have to resend it. As with testing, since it's web-based, recipients will see the latest version automatically.
Some things to keep in mind:
° Keep your colors simple. Less is more in some cases, so try to use less than 3 or 4 colors at most. ° Keep your sentenses short and to the point. People don't always read everything on a page. ° Use "white space". Short paragraphs of only 2 or 3 sentenses, extra space between the important information. ° Don't get too carried away with bolding. Before you know it all the text is bolded instead of the important information or highlights you originally wanted to have stand out!
