Designing for the masses

When you're designing your invitation, remember to think a bit about your recipients. Sometimes there are circumstances that you should take into consideration.

For example: Who are your recipients?
Are you sending your invitation or announcement to someone who's elderly or with poor or impaired eyesight? When your recipient looks at your invitation, will there be young children standing there as well?

If some of your recipients are of the more mature population, remember to make your fonts just a little larger so it's easier for them to read. Granted, most people with vision problems have set their monitor settings adjusted appropriately, but not all!

Colorblindness is another example. If you have a friend who is unable to tell the difference between brown and orange, then by all means, don't put orange text on a brown background! Make sure ALL your recipients are able to read your invitation.

Keep your information short and to the point. As many of you know, people don't READ on the internet. It's more of a SCANNING action. Long, drawn out paragraphs of information may get looked at, but not necessarily read. Be precise, but be quick about it.

Make your image choice relevant to the event. Don't use an image of a lake shore for an in-office business meeting, or worse yet, an image of a snake for Sarah's Birthday! (unless Sarah is really "in" to snakes) Pictures are worth a thousand words... make sure your picture is saying the right thing!

Always try to create your invitation with your recipients in mind. You may need larger text, different colors, or more relevant pictures. Remember, you're designing the invitation for your guests, not yourself!

You want what where?

There's a little-known feature on SendAnInvite that you may find useful. It's the Local Search feature and you can find it in the red bar at the top of your account page.

Let's say you're having a get-together with friends that live some distance from you, so you decided to make it a "Dinner and a Movie" night. You've chosen a central location so no one has to drive further than anyone else making it easier for everyone to attend.

Problem: You don't know what restaurants are located in the chosen town.
Solution: Use the Local Search on SendAnInvite when you create your invitation!

Let's say you've decided on a small town like Carnation, Washington. Go to your local search and search for restaurants in Carnation, WA. The results will tell you what restaurants are there, and exactly where they are. Once you've chosen which one to go to, you can use that address for your Map on the invitation, so everyone knows where it is!

You could also use the information with the Guest Preferences feature! But I think we'll leave that topic for the next edition! J
