Your SendAnInvite Address Book:

Before you send your invitation, you’ll need to add your guest list into the SendAnInvite Address Book. You can do this either by importing your list, or by manually typing in each address by hand. If you have a large list, you may want to import the list to save time and trouble.

Importing and Exporting

Exporting means simply to “move out”, while Importing is to “move in”. If you have your contact list in your email program, you must first export your list from your email address book, then import the list into your SendAnInvite address book.

If you are unfamiliar with exporting/importing your contact list from your email program, we’ve added some instructions you can follow depending on the email program you use. If you need further assistance with exporting, check your email program’s help feature.

Exporting Your Contact List:

  • Hotmail: Here's one way to export your contacts from Hotmail:

Using Internet Explorer:
    • Sign in to your Hotmail account.
    • Click the 'Contacts' tab.
    • Click 'Print view.'
    • Align the cursor with the first letter of the 'Name' column.
    • Highlight your contacts by holding down the cursor and dragging it down the list.
    • Hold down the 'Control + c' keys to copy the list.
    • Open Microsoft Excel (or a similar spreadsheet program that supports comma separated values).
    • Select cell A1 in Excel (the top square on the left side).
    • Hold down the 'Control + v' keys to paste (don't use 'Paste Special').
    • Choose 'Save as' from the 'File' menu, and select the type 'CSV (Comma delimited).' Make a note of where you saved the file. We suggest saving to your Desktop.
Using Mozilla or Firefox:
    • Sign in to your Hotmail account.
    • Click the 'Contacts' tab.
    • Click 'Print view.'
    • Align the cursor with the first letter of the 'Name' column.
    • Highlight your contacts by holding down the cursor and dragging it down the list.
    • Hold down the 'Control + c' keys to copy the list.>
    • Open Microsoft Excel (or a similar spreadsheet program that supports comma separated values).
    • Select cell A1 in Excel (the top square on the left side).
    • Right click in cell A1 and select 'Paste Special.'
    • Select 'Text,' and click 'OK.'
    • Choose 'Save as' from the 'File' menu, and select the type 'CSV (Comma delimited).' Make a note of where you saved the file. We suggest saving to your Desktop.

  • Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express: Here are some general directions to follow, though instructions may vary by version. For more detailed instructions, open 'Help' in Outlook or Outlook Express and type 'export' in the search box. Look for topics that include 'export wizard,' 'export information,' 'exporting contacts' or 'exporting address book contacts' in the title.

    From Outlook:
    • Select File > Import/Export > Export from the main menu
    • Choose Comma Separated Values (Windows) > Select "Contacts" > Save exported file

    From Outlook Express:

    • Select File > Export > Address Book from the main menu.
    • Select Text File (Comma Separated Values).
    • Click Export.
  • Orkut: Log in to your account, then click 'Friends' along the top navigation. Next, click 'Download your contacts' on the bottom of the page to save your contacts as a CSV file.

  • AOL: AOL doesn't have the functionality to export your address book, so you'll have to create a custom CSV file if you use this service.

  • Others: Refer to your service or client help section for information on how to export your address book.


Importing Your Contact List:

Now you have your new contact list file saved to your Desktop (or wherever you decided to save it).

  • From within your SendAnInvite Address Book, click on the IMPORT button.
  • BROWSE to the location and click on the file to be imported and click the IMPORT button
  • Select the fields in your import file, which contain the name and email address of your contacts. If you don’t need the names, just use the email address field as shown below:

  • After you click on the CONTINUE button, the importing will begin. When it’s finished, you’ll see a message letting you know if the import was successful, how many records were imported or not imported, or any errors that may have occurred.

* SendAnInvite will not import duplicate records or wrongly formatted records.

Now your address book should contain all the names/addresses from the imported file and you’re ready to mail off your invitation!
