Summer Event Ideas

Summer is well on it's way and school's just about over! This is the time a lot of people start scrambling for activity ideas. So we thought we'd share a few inexpensive (and kid-friendly) ideas with you.

Backyard BBQ/Pot Luck - It's become a standard! Invite friends and family to your place or a local park. With SendAnInvite's "What To Bring" option, you can ask recipients to bring a covered dish, outdoor chairs, games... whatever you can think of! Your guests choose what they'd like to bring when they RSVP, and you can view their choices from your RSVP list!

Outdoor Movie Night - If you have a big wall with no windows or obstructions, consider an Outdoor Movie Night on one of warm summer evenings! You'll need a projector that can be connected to a VCR/DVD player (usually available at rental stores if you don't own one) and blankets or chairs. A weighted sheet hung over a clothesline will also work if you don't have a suitable wall! Outdoor Tiki torches or other outdoor lighting adds to the moment. (keep safety in mind with open flames!) Have sodas or your favorite beverage on hand in coolers, and don't forget the pop corn!

Backyard Camp-Outs - This one is super for a kid's party! Most appliance stores have refrigerator boxes they'd love to get rid of! Have your guests bring a box and have them create their own "cabin". Some people get pretty creative carving out windows, doors, even porches have been created with two boxes! Depending on the age, you may have to provide some assistance with cutting those windows! Supply inexpensive poster paints and offer prizes such as McDonald's gift certificates! Use Glow-sticks for lighting and let the ghost stories fly!

Movie Marathon - Pick a movie that has a few sequels... such as Star Wars, Star Trek, or even old detective flicks. Plan on typical "Movie Food" such as pizza, pop corn, or even veggie trays. Have lots of floor pillows, blankets or sleeping bags. Then settle in and watch till you drop.... literally!

Adventure Day - Zoos and aquariums usually have some form of fun, educational programs for kids (and adults!) Find out your local zoo's schedule and plan an Adventure Day!

There are tons of things to do in the summer! Sometimes all it takes is a little imagination to turn an ordinary activity into nothing short of a three ring circus! If you have a fun summer activity idea you'd like to share, tell us about it! You could see it posted in an upcoming Tips & Tricks edition!
